Plotter engine data
Evening all,
i'm in the market for a new plotter, ideally 5/6" display. 99% of the time i will be inshore close to port in fair weather (boring i know!) whats the cheapest plotter this size that will display engine data through NMEA 2000. Due to my cruising circumstances i have decided that my engines are more important than where i'm going. I like the Garmin echomap series but doesn't look like its going to cut it
cheers

IMHO a 5 inch display for a multifunction plotter is too small. I use twin Garmin echomap plus 95SV which are connected through a Garmin GMS10 network port expander , so that both displays can share all data. My Mercury 150 engine data is displayed by using a Mercury NMEA gateway, which is effectively a CaNBus to NMEA interface.
Generally I rely on the Mercury smartcraft for the engine data ( fuel burn rate and fuel used) and rarely look at it on the plotters.

Agreed I have 7" & 9" lowrance HDS plotters. The 7" is dedicated to the engine display & I wouldn't want any less real estate.

Garmin chomp 65cv would be a good starting point, these often come installed with free charts and engine data can be layered over the charts.
I moved from lowrance after 20 years to Garmin recently and haven't looked back. Not that you are after high end seafloor charts but this is what Im getting where I fish (offshore canyons in 300m+ water).

Ooh that's looks trick Jon. I should have read the Garmin page propley, looks like the echomap 65cv would work, and like you say, the benefit of preloaded charts. For some reason I had it in my head that only the echomaps would display engine data

Hi I have a raymarine element 7, it has nmea 2000 compatability. I think the dashboard data can only be displayed split screen though
