Ships Radio Licence
I applied for the new Ships radio Licence on 1 December. Quick question because I had to register and it stated that I would have to wait 5 days for a letter in the post with my new password. I haven't received this yet and its the 10th. Anyone else had the same problem ?
Without the password I can't get access to the radio licence application.
Should I phone them ?

Ditto - probably their system wasn't set up to cope with the sheer volume of applications (i.e more than 10)

I waited over a week for the access details but the site doesn't work, can't print off licence, phoned three times got nowhere......I can't imagine how Ofcom think this is a stramlined service

I got the letter today.
Once I'd worked out how to use the site I was okay. My Pop up Blocker was causing havoc (Somehow I have 2 - AOL and Google, Thats lucky).
I entered all the details and printed off the 13 sheets. You don't get a Tax Disk like thing anymore, your supposed to carry the full 13 pages round with you.
All the relevant stuff is on the first page so I shall just be carrying that.
For anyone struggling don't forget your Pop Up blocker and the original passwords you used are the ones you need. The bit of paper you recieve just tells you your activated. Don't know why they can't use an E Mail.

Agreed - a confirmation email would have been a lot easier! I still can't get in - claims my userID is not valid. When I attempt to enter details even under the "forgot password" section, it claims it doesn't recognise me.. I know details are correct as I printed out the application form...
Looks like they are having some teething issues.

My understanding is that as long as you use the online version, either for application or renewal, that the ships licence is now free. Furthermore it does not require an annual re-application (and hence yearly fee). Good news

Finally got my letter, nothing in the letter except to say that you can now logon to the Ofcom site and complete you application.
That bit went ok but could not actually print the license out the link just took me to a blank page.
I rang the help number and got straight through to a helpful guy who told me to email the license No. and he would email me back with the license as an attached PDF. Sorted with 5 mins!
Apparently you only need to log on every 10 years to verify that nothing has changed or update the details if you move, sell boat or some other change has occured.
As Biggles says everything that matters is on the first page so I have laminated that to keep on board, not sure if that complies with the rule but it is better than 13 pages of paper mache.

Just spoke to guy at ofcom today after being unable to log in and It appears that some of the online applications have managed to loose the email address... Once he had added this back in I could then get access and change password etc.
Interesting point is that the User ID when logging in is not email address but the text after "REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION" on the letter you get back - clear as mud!

I have the same problem and have switched my security off but its still not working. I still think this may be more Microsoft related than Ofcom though.
