SIB GPS/Depth Sounder
I am just buying a Honwave T38 and I would like a depth sounder. Could anyone advise the best options in terms of unit/transducer mount and power supply options. I should say the SIB will be deflated and packed away between trips so nothing that will break when folded will work.
Many thanks.

Also see posts #4 & #5 on this thread... a similar but slightly more casual setup on my Aerotec...

Decided not to bother, at least initially.
So a few qs:
If we just use iPhone maps for GPS What is the best app to go for, C Maps, Navionics etc and what is the annual £ for these?
I have seen a few posts about sailing folks using iPads - maybe I’m being dumb (I’m sure someone will point this out if I am) but how does the iPad get real-time position data as they don’t connect to GPS do they?

Is the depth sounder/fishfinder/gps idea more for location or actually fishing?
I've always liked depth info because I was brought up on larger craft where it was important. But as part of a drive to add lightness and simplicity I've given up the depth info just going to a self powered GPS. After some initial frustrations getting charts to suit the unit I'm now really pleased with how it's worked out. See this thread... mostly the stuff from post #14 on...

If you get the higher end iPads, they have GPS built in. Saying that, as the owner of a GPS enabled IPad with the Navionics charts, there’s no way would I take it out on the RIB/SIB. You can get a “proper” plotter/sounder combo for a fraction of the price of an iPad, and not have the worries about power/robustness/losing it etc.

Thanks. I think I’ll probably go for the Garmin 78S handheld. No depth sounder but no agg with power supply and can take a microSD card for BlueChart® g2 charts if I wanted to upgrade to detailed mapping. Gives me SOG, compass and route/waypoints so I think all ok.

Ive got Navionics platinum, c-map and Garmin g3 vision. For a phone and on a budget I would go with navionics myself, however the g3 vision is by far the best in terms of detail, I could easily not bother using the sonar over this instead.
I have the g3 in my boat on a Garmin unit but also on my phone for when Im on other vessels. This is a couple of screen shots from the g3 charts in my local area.
