Side facing speakers?

Just wondered if anyone had fitted speakers in the side on the console? I want to fit a stereo, of some sort, and could easily fit the speakers in the side of the console. Fitting them in the back would be a challenge because of 'stuff' that is already there.

Would appreciate opinions.

I thought about that and I think something like these might be the best compromise.

I'm waiting for a shipping quote for them at the moment. Nobody seems to sell them in the UK.
