Silva S10

I have ordered a Silva S10 DSC VHF. Is it or is it not waterproof enough for RIB use bracket mounted on a console? The bumff on everyones websites suggests it is fully waterproof to a depth of 1m but the chandler I ordered it from told me that it needs to be flush mounted or boxed in in some way to be sufficiently waterproof. If the answer is no can anyone recommend a similar compact all-in one that is suitable for bracket mounting?

Best advice is not to bracket mount any VHF on a RIB as the weak point will be the antenna connector. Even the quality VHF's such as Icom will need protection, so the Silva certainly will not like it. perhaps you could make a box to flush mount it in and bracket mount that.

Thanks for that, I had a mail back from Silva today to confirm that the unit is fine to console / bracket mount. I have been thinking about boxing but have struggled to find anything suitable, I'll look at the unit when it arrives bearing your comment about the connection in mind. Cheers
