I assume you're talking about a membrane type panel, and some of the switches aren't working?

Likely water ingress, but it would involve taking apart to make sure.

Ok, I don't have a cobra but is DW not only shown on channels other than 16 (as sixteen is automatically the second chanel?). I don't know but scan may be the same (a mandatory choice?). I.e. Change to another channel and do the softkeys come back.

Mature reply would be ditch the Cobra & buy either an Icom or Standard Horizon.

Aye, but you have to go through the pain to learn the lesson properly!

I did think that, but instead I downloaded the Cobra manual and speed read it - there wasn't anything useful in it. I think his VHF is hooched.

That's my mature and considered opinion. I'm probably wrong.

I think you are!!! But PD is just predicting the future!

Now I've looked at your (the OP's) pics on a proper screen I notice they have RX on them. Your radio is receiving signal. When it is receiving it stops scan / DW functions (I don't know which model you have but the MRF57 manuals says:

"if the squelch is set so you can hear a continuous hissing sound the memory scan and tri-watch functions are disabled".

You need to adjust your squelch (if you aren't hearing it make sure you turn the volume up first). If that doesn't solve then willk is already right ;-)

Ian - I'm going to be rude and tell you you are wrong! Your position is showing 0,0 and RX is displayed so I am fairly certain it is not indicating a GPS position being received. On every radio I've used TX in the display means it is currently transmitting and RX indicates it has a signal above the squelch threshold. GPS connection is usually shown with some sort of little icon that looks like a satellite.

You can still receive voice when the squelch is adjusted too low but the radio can't scan because it thinks there is something you want to listen to.

Good spot Poly!

Iancostello it's tucked away on page 26 of the manual. Turn the squelch up a bit and you should get those soft keys back.

I assumed it was a pun around the comically named "burp" feature on cobra radios rather than him expecting it to fix it, but you are right PD beat us all to the right answer (with both of his contributions!)
