Sound system in a rib
Hi, i have been looking at marine speakers and was wondering it it is a good idea to get 6''x9'' fitted into the console and a cd tuner, with an amp under the seat or in the console. Or is it better to buy 'tower' speakers designed for wakeboard boats that can be bolted onto an a frame
Cheers

I've just been looking into this - finally settled on a set of waterproof speakers by Boss on ebay fixeed into the main console - then coupled to a mini-amp in waterproof box inside the console. Then lead out to a cheap mp3 player in a car-mount on the top. I had looked at polyplanar but it all seemed a bit pricey and other users weren't that happy with the results. I avoided CD because of the tendency to skip. A cheap mp3 will give the best long-term performance.
I've got all the kit together - now just waiting for a free day to do the install - Once I have it all finally in I will post some pics.

Gents
If you use the search function you'll find plenty of discussion on here about this subject.
I use a pair of Unbranded Marine speakers fitted into the console, a cheap Sony amp in the console with the connections well covered in grease, and a lead into the glove compartment with a std 3.5mm jack plug on the end to connect into an MP3 player, just like rudilb suggested.
It works well, and with no moving parts it doesn't skip.
Nasher.

It's loud enough to hear over the engine at full chat, just, but it's only a low power system that's set up for crusing and at anchor, and I prefer the sound of the engine at faster speeds anyway
Wind noise is actually more of a problem than the engine.
A bigger Amp and speakers would be louder obviously, my amp is only rated at100W.

I put a Fusion system in mine which works well. I had thought about a CD based system, but ultimately went with a unit that's in the console and has a (hidden) waterproof place for an ipod. Four Fusion speakers - two facing the jockey seats and two facing the bow.
I imagine that a CD system will jump around a bit....

Search for boat music threads on here regarding various versions of music systems. Mine is a Sony CD radio with no amp and two 50W marine speakers.
It has never skipped in even the worst sea conditions and can be heard clearly even over the engine at full chat.
I had some fun last week turning it full up over a wreck to see if my mate could hear it 25m below
It is a brilliant bit of kit for annoying the yachties and being a general hooligan...........
I do remember one lovely day not long ago when we were weaving around some small islands with the missus on the front seat holding a glass of wine and the next random tune started playing, the Bond theme. I almost burst out laughing and we ended up doing donuts just for a laugh with it playing full blast.
It was worth fitting it just for the fun of that 3 mins.........

Here is a short clip with the background sound from the stereo and the wind and motor, not even half turned up!
