SPOT 2 Satellite GPS Messenger, Has Anyone Tried One ?

I have had a bit of a look at the Spot 2 on the internet and it looks interesting, has anyone had any experience of one, and equally do the coast guards like / approve of them as a safety device / emergency beacon.

I am looking into a round Britain cruise in Autumn 2011, and thought this could an alternative / addition to an EPIRB
