Standard horizon HX500E Squelch issues

Hi Guys, I am sure I posted this before but I can't find the post.

I can't stop the squelch on the radio, changing the setting makes no difference.

Is there something I can do to 'factory reset' it? Or do I need to send it in for repair?

Thanks

Ben

You mean the unit is always receiving?

How about trying a different channel? Could be that something is creating noise on your current one. Cell phone callss used to do that quite a bit, as I recall.

Try it without anything else on the boat switched on - sounds like interference from something? Either that or it's broken

It's a handheld, does it most of the time on all channels. I have changed antennas with my other handheld, and it's still the same, the other handheld is fine though.

I'm going to talk to SH this week and see what they say. Its still ok for emergencies but can't use it for monitoring as the white noise will dry me insane

I have had the same problem on my HX500E since new. Not done too much proper testing but seems happen when the battery is down a bit. Be interested in what SH say.

Should have read this thread before buying a HX500E (which by the way is petite and fits nicely into the sleeve pocket of my drysuit)...

Is there any solution to the squelch issue?

Just gave mine a good overnight charge and the squelch is not working on any channels inside the house.

Time to give SH a call I think.

Upon Mikes (from allgadgets) recommendation I sent mine to Yaesu and got it back yesterday. They did a software update, I believe (no info from them, only 'repaired' on a check list ticked off). Seems to be fine now

regards
