Standard Horizon PS1000 will not power up

Hypothetically speaking since this set was never approved for UK use...

The Standard Horizon PS1000 is a great 'black box' fixed DSC VHF for use in a small RIB, as the only exposed part is the RAM microphone. Mine was fine for 3 years until recently when it stopped working.

The black box is still receiving power as when I make the 12V breaker the power button/indicator flashes slowly for about 30 seconds, but there is no indication of life on the RAM microphone display.

This fault condition is not mentioned in the manual.

Is there a cold check I can do on the RAM microphone plug or the fixed unit socket to further diagnose?

If not, is there a way of bench testing the RAM microphone, as I guess the next step is to buy a Standard Horizon GX1500E and tuck the main unit away under the console using the same RAM microphone 'up top'.

Any help greatfully received for this hypothetical fault condition.

Andy

Andy,

I am in Gosport too - we have a couple of options. I can lend you my RAM+ Mic, so you can test with that. You can also plug your RAM+ straight into one of my GX-1500e sims (I'm quite happy to lend you one if required) for testing - they work the same as a full set, just with the transmitters removed, so it will answer your query as to where the fault may or may not lie.

Cheers,

Jimbo
