Trim gauge/sensor checks

Hi,
When using the rib last week, fitted with a Yam 50HP, with power trim and the gauge in the console, it looked as if it was not working correctly.
It seemed to spend most of its time at full plus.
Before I look at connections at the gauge, check the condition of the sensor at the motor, can I confirm what I can do at home to test.
So with the boat in the garage, if I move the trim/motor up and down, should I see the gauge going up and down with it?
Thanks

I have just been out and checked my Honda 50 (2014)... when I tilted the motor up and down the gauge on the dash moved accordingly..
Dont know if this helps.

Yes you should see the guage move up and down with the engine. I had the same issue with yam 40, turn out to be the small plastic ring which the sensor pivots on at the motor, poor quality park bought the replacement metal one from BHG marine
