V Tronix Antenna Replacement

Yesterday I managed to lose my V Tronix RIB antenna whilst bouncing around the English channel.
I've tried looking on all the major chandlers sites for just the antenna, and I've also E mailed Communication Aerials Ltd (the manufacturers of V-Tronix kit), but to no avail.
Has any one any idea where I can purchase the aerial seperately ? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I went through this when the Vtronix Raider fell off the University boat last year. After a few fruitless calls and e-mails, I determined it was easier (and time wise cheaper!) to just give Dave at Boatcare a call, get a new antenna and cable, and just keep the cable for spare.

Jimbo,

I'm starting to feel like that. Just spoke to V Tronix who weren't very helpful. They insist I need to buy the whole setup. Although I can buy the Antenna and base without the cable.

I'll PM Dave at boatcare and see what he's got to offer.

Could be worth calling Marine Electornic services, as they specialise in just electronics.

Biggles,

I'd recommend you swap the base out as well, don't just stick a new whip in. The bases seem to lose their grip and once the whips start falling out, they continue to do so.

Vtronix have sent me just the base + whip before, I think it was about £5 cheaper than buying the lot in the shops. They've sent me a whip FOC in the past too - can't remember why now. I've had so many brake/fall off in the past.

DJL,

Looks like I can get the base and whip as one item code YRA but am having difficulty finding a dealer that can supply it. They all just seem to stock the full item with the cable etc which I really don't need. Communication Aerials Ltd say that the Part YRA retails at £33 whereas Part YRR, the full kit, retails at £49. I have been offered the full kit for £40, which is a good price but I'm going to a little more phoning around tomorrow to see what I can come up with.

Good idea about changing the base and antenna. I'm also going to find a way of fitting a wire from the antenna to my A Frame. Its something I had thought of doing before. Wish I'd done it now.

I've had to replace mine twice at a cost of £50-£55 each time for the full kit. Be very careful fitting the plug into the base of the aerial as it is very fragile!

Well had to bite the bullet and admit defeat on replacing the antenna cheaply. I bought Part RYY locally from Mikecc, thanks for the offer Dave, but the ease of just nipping in to town was too good. The new antenna and base is now fitted. I've given an extra little tweek to the antenna and tied it down with some fishing filament. So if it does come out again hopefully I won't lose it. That must be three antennas I've lost over the years now. And I don't really want to lose anymore. It doubles the cost of a day out.

Why the V tronix?

There are loads of other aerials out there. I guess any base loaded whip type would be good enough.

Andy,

That was the original part. Got any other antennas for future reference if required ?
