VHF Bargains

Morning all Im looking at getting my first VHF thinking of the SH 890e I use a Honwave T40 for rivers and Plymouth Sound. I also have a course & exam booked. Any thing I need to know in advance thanks.

Have a look on the usual suspect’s websites. Force4, Cactus etc. there were some good deals last summer, dunno if they’re still around. You won’t go wrong with either SH or Icom. Might be worth looking at a DSC model if it’s going to be your main means of comms & navigation.

Yes, an HX890 is DSC - I picked up one in a decent offer during the original COVID lockdown and love it so far.

I also picked up an SH 890 last year, around £185 with a free handheld mic/speaker.
Marine Scene has them for £189 at the moment.
I find it very intuitive to use once you've done the course and exam.
Cant comment on other makes as this is the only one I've had.

The fist mic is great in a small boat I have an 851 and bought the 890 when the first offer was on details on here somewhere shop around send soem emails see what offers are about
