VHF casings ???

Hi

We are currently having difficultys with our VHF sets breaking a little too often due to water ingress.
I am looking for some sealed casing that will cover the whole of the radio, i have seen them but cannot seem to find them online.
Just hoping maybe someone on here may have an idea.

Cheers

Problem is they are to be installed on a rescue boat and when your in rough seas trying to talk into the mic ,there is every chance of pushing buttons on the mics. less buttons on mics by experiance are better for us .

similar, picture the set then an external surround with a clear plastic face on the face are buttons and dials which go through the housing to operate the set. im sure the lifeboats use them , i just cannot find them anywhere.

I'm not convinced that is as big an issue as you think (if it has been well designed ergonomically) - do you randomly push buttons on handhelds in choppy conditions?

Do you know where the moisture is coming from:

- sea water? - where/how are you mounting them and where is it getting in
- rain water? - where is it getting in? does the boat have a cover etc?
- condensation? - look at the ventilation of the boats in storage?

some people resort to butchering their radios and adding silica gel inside the casing (search for a post by biffer I think with tips on special screws for the job IIRC?) - if they are out of warranty and the display is fogging but functionally OK this might be worth a try before splashing the cash on replacements.

The boxes you are probably thinking of are the DS-Neptune Developments boxes:

Radio Enclosures

Be warned, they are not cheap!

Cheers
