VHF License
Hi Guys,
How much is the correct license for a built in VHF? I've been having a read on the ofcom site and I'm even more confused now than I was before I started!
I understand that you need to take your course etc but once all of that is done what is the yearly license costs?
Many Thanks!
Jas

Some include the license in the course some charge on top, It was 20 quid, which the course provider sends off with two passport photo's of yourself once the course is completed. Your license lasts for life
There is someone on here offering a course for £80 all in which is very cheap

Two licences are required
One for the Vessel to Carry/be fitted with the radio
One for the operator to use the set.
Boat Licence is currently FREE if applied for on line on the OFCOM site. and goes with the vessel...
Operators Licence is £30.00 and can only be applied for on completion of a course having past the exam, or by direct entry just for the exam. This is for life..

Hi,
Ahh ok so there isn't a recurring license fee anymore? I'm sure it used to be the case that there was a yearly license cost? Or am I just loosing the plot lol
For someone that took the license 20+ years ago, would the same apply? Also would they be able to use the newer DSC equipment?
Thanks,
Jas

If you mean the one from RYA with your photo on, I would guess that you will have to contact RYA and pay a fee.

OFCOM DO NOT issue this licence, it is issued on behalf of the MCGA by the RYA. You need to contact them with some details and they will issue a replacement !!!

Sounds great that does Tony, really appreciate that mate! If you could bring it back and I could borrow it would be super!
I take the Rib down to Devon, or should say I will take it down there as i've only just ordered it! Ive been taking the previous boat down there for years though!

Try the eGMDSS website. It's a free online course, covers the same as the RYA course and a bit more. It even has a DSC VHF simulator, bit crap compared to using a real radio but good enough to give you an idea. No "official" exam at the end though so you wont get a licence out of it.
Cheers,
Stuart

Thanks! I quite often try and avoid getting people to help as they are usually more of a hindrance - I'm sure you were of great help though!
