VHF Radio

this is probably a stupid question but does anybody still do a vhf base that doesn't have DSC built into it

Yes - Icom (amongst others I think) do the M401. Handy for places you don't want DSC such as Marinas and Sailing Club Shore Stations.

As said the Icom M410 is still available. Expect to pay around 125 quid for one.

You could also scour the 2nd hand stuff, where people have upgraded and have a working old school set to get rid of.

Is there a reason DSC would be a disqualification?

If you don't like DSC, can't you simply not use those features? The units I am familiar with allow you to ignore incoming calls; and as long as you don't send one, it's the same as a non-DSC radio, isn't it?

its for the sea cadets which is a youth organisation and we mainly operate on inland waterways were dsc would't be of much use to us
