I like the Standard Horizon HX280, I have one and at under £100 is waterproof and does what it says on the box. No one had issues hearing me last summer, so alls good.

First you must clarify what you want.

Marine VHF (a license required) or Personal Radio PMR (no License)?

VHF does not have to refer to the marine band.

The allocated frequencies of the marine band only make up a tiny portion of the VHF Band

waterproof handheld vhf radios

hi all, just to clarify : the radios from argos weren't vhf, just cheap walkie talkie things that worked fine if you could see the person you were talking to ship to shore. I just want two cheap waterproof handheld vhf radios that do not require any licence. thanx. paul.

No but the handheld radio's argos sell are not VHF they are PMR radios which work in the UHF band.

I'm fairly sure he's looking for waterproof handheld PMR (460 MHz) radios. No license required - but no way to talk to other boats (unless they happen to have a PMR also) and in my experience limited range.

re hand held VHF

hi
i strongley recomend u get a water proof hand held VHF
there is a lot about for under £100.

try http://www.marinescene.co.uk/search/
STANDARD HORIZON HX280E SUBMERSIBLE HANDHELD VHF RADIO at£88.99

rember your vhf licence is free of charge go on/ line
you need one for your boat , this will cover all fixed and portable radios
at sea only a marine vhf radio will do

Would be interested in one of those, if it plugs into a Standard Horizon 750e.
