Waterproof phone case.

As there title says... looking for a waterproof phone case for my medium size iPhone... see-through pouch with lanyard type thing.

Any buy/don't buy advice on specific brands?

Aquapac I’ve used a lot supplied by the Royal Navy for us when we dived on the nuclear subs to keep out telemetry dry recording our radio active exposure which is far less that visiting Cornwall about sub £20 forgive the pun

I've used Aquapac for a couple of years. Can't comment about how waterproof they are apart from trying them in a sink full of water with kitchen paper in them as a test, the kitchen paper was bone dry. One criticism I have is there is sometimes a glare on pictures when it's sunny.

I use an older mobile (Xperia XZ) when I'm taking any videos without a case.

Bacofoil. Ziplock if you're feeling flush.

Thanks guys. Just had a look and the plus size Aquapac is a perfect fit for my phone. And if the brand was good enough for your commercial diving Jeff it’ll be fine for our leisure use. At the moment for safety my phone lives in our general stuff dry bag which is clipped right at the bow. When I need it a call forward to crew always ends up with “Are you sure it was in there I can’t find it” followed by the fruit pastilles, water, compact towel etc being frantically thrown out until the phone is found. Next to me in a pouch tied to the grab rails will suit better.

I’ll see how the photos work Steve, I only take them in calmer waters so don’t mind taking it out of the pouch if I have to.

Ordering from Ordnance Survey as I’m after some other tech from them, but if just wanting the pouch they have it on offer £3 off and free postage.

Can't believe I'm so late to the party getting one of these.

Swerving the freezer bag and string option ordered one so a parcel of goodies arrived today from Ordnance Survey shop inc the Aquapac. Very impressed.

Fits my phone nicely and the closure tabs are easy to use. Nice chunky lanyard. My touchscreen works perfectly through it as does the camera. The pic of the book is taken through the pouch. It's sunny now so I'll go out shortly and see if there is any glare into the sun.

Edit: Tried directly into the sun and with sun falling at an angle onto the phone. Two of three were flare free and I discovered flare only happened when the pouch was a little rippled over the lens. I have a gel back on the phone and the pouch material sort of sticks to it so f I press the pouch flat onto the lens before taking photos it's fine.

Looks like it will suit perfectly on the SIB.

Are you sure it is not already waterproof. Anything after an Iphone 7 is generally waterproof

Yes waterproof and submersible but far prefer it's not constantly exposed to salt water spray and the pouch/lanyard is a flexible way to carry be it clipped to SIB fittings or round neck.

As mentioned in post 6 I've used the phone far less than I might as it's a faff to get out of the dry bag and in exciting conditions I'm always worried it will shoot like a slippery fish out of my hand overboard. Last trip out we sat out of gear enjoying the swells for a few minutes while I took some pics then put it on the seat for a moment but accidentally left it there and was horrified to see it some Nm later sliding along the floor past my feet, it could so easily have been bounced out.

My solution is to fix 2 stainless steel d Rings to the back of the front seat, Then buy a Laptop bag... Size to suit the individual. Then put 2 snap shackles on each side of the bag. Hang this from the D rings and there you have a lovely padded bag for all your essentials like phone wallet, Camera, Keys etc etc. Works a treat.

We call it the boat key bag. Been doing this for about 6 years now

Something like this

Was with the freezer bag brigade until I recently got a couple similar from temu...didn't expect much for under a pound.....but pleasantly suprised. Although dont really plan on testing the dubious quality out.
Have now ordered a waterproof case to fix to the boat so I can use navionics handsfree.
Big clumbsy butter fingures has had a few close calls! Like you David, although phone is waterproof im not keen on salt water hitting it directly.
So will see what the next temu package is like!

Seemingly a solution to a different issue smallribber.

Our stuff we want to protect is in a proper waterproof and floating dry bag, the Aquapac is to negate the need to go in that bag to find the phone and also know it can't fly out of your hand when in use.

Perhaps just me but I never take my wallet out on a SIB. Apple Pay and photos of all my IDs/insurance on the phone and a few tenners in a waterproof pocket to drop someone a drink if we ever needed help seems sufficient.

Likewise, I never take my wallet either. Can't see the point when the phone has everything on it Is need.

We have a couple of the Aldi waterproof duffel bags clipped on the grab rope & hanging inside the SIB, everything gets stuffed in those that isn’t waterproof.
On the RIB the phones & wallet go in the cargo net on the backside of the console.

It’s best protecting the phone salt water is abrasive plus the bag will have buoyancy if dropped in the ogin

I’ve just bought one too. I was in the vicinity of this MOB when it happened and we had the binoculars out. Her mobile saved her life.

We are Aldi rather than Lidl folks but it's funny how many times you've just bought an XYZ and two weeks later find the middle aisle has very similar at 20% of the price.
