The Club are going to buy a weather station and link to web, what do people think of Vantage Vue with IP Data Logger.
We going to make it available online for ALL to see. Any advice welcome.

I've got the vantage vue 2 and it is really good. I also have it connected to my pc and when I remember to fire it up it sends updates to my website www.erinlad.co.uk automatically
You need the data logger for this to work, and you have two choices. Either the USB data logger which connects to your pc and uses the pc to do the ftp transfer to your website or a standalone ethernet data logger which connects direct to your router and updates your website itself. The latter option is the better as you don't need a pc to be up and running to keep the updates flowing. The downside is that it is more expensive. When I bought mine the only option available was the USB version which means my website only gets updated if I leave my pc on all the time. You also need the pc software which is called weatherview I think.

Make sure it's not pointed at their faces anyway. I did this at work once and eventually I got a phonecall...
"Hello, Mr. willk? Raise your right hand., no the other right. This is the Assistant Commissioner for Data Protection and I can see you. Now that your hand is up, pull the lead out of that camera."

Will keep this on mind, was under impression only an issue if you are recording the images and not just streaming, I will prob limit to a 30 sec refresh anyways.

Mine was about 8fps, user controllable, 330 degree pan and tilt with a 26x zoom. Naughty but nice while it lasted. The fact that I hosted it on my website may have been the issue

Maplin do a low cost one which is actually a W1082 underneath and with come linux code available via googlecode can be made to work rather nicely... far cheaper than any other solution I've seen.
As for web cams - my experiments with cheapo cameras have had lots of issues with contrast - either its too light mid day or too dark near dawn and dusk.
And if you want to keep the IC happy just use low res images..

Sorry - I was referring to the weatherstation.
http://wittongilbert.free-online.co.uk/weather/
(Weather is off-line right now - has been since summer when I move office)
http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb-wireless...ecaster-223254
(Looks like they have none on-line. There are several in branches near me.)
And here's the code to upload the content:
http://code.google.com/p/pywws/
I could poit you to some code to upload some webcam content from linux. BUT the first thing you need is a cam that will take the pics at the size you want and a web connection that supports the resolution of data you need...
so - what's the purpose of the webcam? Why not look out the window!
Do you want to have any remote control on it?
What operating system?

Now - i have station, played with it in my Office and good bit of kit, even has an iphone app!
Now i have the task of getting somebody to install on gable end...
Any body have any advice for mounting a Davis Vue on gable end, and how high should it clear the roof line?
I was thinking Ariel Pole 30mm , 1.5 mm , but scared of stress fatigue, would stainless steal be better....
How much for 4 foot 30mm...?
Your thoughts please....
Scott

It's wireless? Why don't you stick it on the flag pole, you might find even a 4' pole won't get it into clean air for accurate direction.

You only need to mount the anenometer and vane high up, both of which are very light. A standard aerial pole would be absolutely fine IMHO. With the IP logger does it display full historical data or just current? I use the PC FTP software which allows me to control the data being displayed my weather page
