Hi Nick
If your boat isn't coming till september I would wait till the boat show, I realise that traveling down would knock the savings off, but you might well be able to get some of the chandlers showing there to do mail order or ask them if they will do the boat show deal for you.
A sale is better than no sale!
Check out the yachting magazines PBO is good for adverts as are some of the motor boat mags.

Alternatively thump the model name into Google - lots of places to buy from. MES often have some deals.

For boat show info, look at the following:

Don't buy a US VHF as it is not type-approved and, IIRC, probably illegal to use in this country. Jon Brooks - we need you again!!!! Also, channels may be different and any warranty will probably be void.

"don't not fear Radioman is here!"

Southampton is a good bet for radio's.
Lots of offers and am sure a few new bits of kit about too!

As for the US kit, it is built for that market and not that of Europe.
Wrong class of DSC, missing channels, not CE marked and not type approved for over here.
Thats the mian points.

Most will not cover warranty over here on US kit , we deff don't.
Plus you only get 12 months on US kit, we would give you 3 years!

The big thing is the law, its is illegal to own let alone use US kit over here.
£5000 fine and confiscation of the kit and if they want its power supply (yes thats your boat!)

Hope that helps, if you make it to Southampton come and see us on the Icom stand.
This is the first year we are having our own stand.
Should be a good show, lots to see and do.

Regards

thinks.... should I go for the cape and pants outside my tights look?

Just a theoretical question, if it was plugged in to the mains would they confiscate the national grid and power stations?

thanks for replying everyone.

i understand that going to a show is probably the best place to get one but the problem is that all the shows seem to be miles and miles away can anyone recommend a good mail order place that i might be able to pick one up at a good price.

Vhf Radios

Hi Nick,

Just an option for you to consider (maybe).

Could you wait until October 3rd?
Are you near-ish to Irvine?

If so we will be there with radios from Icom,Navman,Silva,Raymarine & a few others Drop me an e-mail if you would like further details.

So what should you look for if buying a radio from the US.
Surely their boats are allowed in our waters with these illegal
radios! I would be supprised if any marine radio wasn't legal in
international waters.
I will email one of the sellars to see what they say.

Have a look at this one!
http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5333
Or have a look at John’s previous posting on this thread!
Is it worth saving a few quid for a bit of important safety kit!

Pumpkin marine are a good mail order place. I have to say I would never buy another Icom product. The service department has taken over six weeks to sort out my two radios and the labour charge is 55 pound per hour.

I complained to Jon Brooks (top bloke) who arranged a discount but I lost any brand loyalty I had

Stuart

I have been away on leave, just back.

In our defence......
I had my assist try to contact you whilst I was away,
He has left messages on you mobile, no returned call and tried to send you a number of e-mails, all bounced back!

Your radio's have been done for a number of weeks and the service dept are awaiting payment.

Sorry you feel you have had very poor service.
I myself left a few messages for you to contact me after I sorted the discount, I have not heard a response from you.

We will not release products with out payment, ever.

Regards

Take it that you have spoken to Jennifer at Boat Electrics and Electronics at Inverkip Marina? if so Have you spoken to Dino at DDZ at Largs Marina, have a look about for the best price then ask Dino to Match it....he usually does
