What All Round White?

Can anybody recommend an all round white nav light for the top of the Aframe.

I haven't had much luck over the years, so looking to nail it with my next purchase rather than throwing good money after bad.

Thanks

I have an Aqua Signal top white and Perko P&S, all LEDs. I binned off the Hella items, they were returning to nature at an alarming rate.

Perko stuff is nice.

Wow, if the price tags are anything to go by they must be the best, but too much for me

I'm after something robust but won't bust my budget

Thanks for posting

I'm AquaSignal on the RIB, 25 series I think, and the larger 40/41 series on the sailing boat. All incandescent, haven't quite yet made the switch to LED.

They've all lasted pretty well, have swapped a lens on the yacht where we hit it with something, but the internals are all fine after 10+ years of cruising.

Reasonable quality, nothing outstanding, but they seem to do the job.

The later type Hella don't seem too bad-Mollers IIRC was talking about the alloy bodied Hella type. The new type are plastic.

<edit> I've got some somewhere-I didn't fit them to the Ballistic because the hole centres for mounting were just far enough out from what's on there that drilling the A-frame for them would have been near impossible.

The lupo are not all they are cracked up to be, they are very expensive to buy and they have issues too, I have fitted a few a while back and they all corroded very very quickly.

The aqua signal lights are good value for money and they seem to last quite well

I went with a Seasense (All around), and a Seachoice (Bow light) just because they were the cheapest I could find, and since I went over 5 years on this boat without ever "needing" running lights they are not a high priority.

LED is the ONLY way to go these days. Incandescent's are just too fragile.

I fitted a 12v anchor light from Salty John. Blanked of the light diode and fitted it to a Carling switch. I also upgraded the LED bulb which is much brighter. Good quality. Now sits on top of my light pole.

12v all round white light: Salty John : The Blog: Anchor lights - buy with caution.

Aqua signal on mine.

Never had to replace a bulb and only needs a clean of the contacts once a year.

It's on the Scorpion so must be the "best" ;-)

Be careful if you are fitting an LED light near your vhf/AIS antenna, you could get interference.
Some LED navigation lights, and some replacement LED clusters, use a particular type of buck regulator to control voltage and this can interfere at 150MHz, to the extent of taking out all AIS targets and, more dangerously, just some AIS targets. Voice communication can also be seriously impaired.
Check with the manufacturer if they have had this issue. All LEDs are supposed to be EMC certified to carry a CE mark but be aware that this is not the case - probably because manufacturers of the vast majority of LEDs don't use them in close proximity to VHF antennas.

Very interesting observation. Over the week end I habd the HH vhf in the kitcjhen. I turned on the lights (10 no led 50w) and the vhf went crazy turn them off and normality was restored.
