Probably easier for you to find one that suits your needs/budget and run it by members. Try Icom and Standard Horizon.

Standard Horizon HX270E lives on my lifejacket and was pretty cheap too

I think there is a new model now but probably similar price

Have you used it yet? if so what are your first impressions?

I have an icom basic [entry level model], which is fine, but I personally would like the option to fit an earpiece, which you can't on mine. Look at features you might want [desires, wish list] for the future in addition to current needs. Options for extras gives some ideas to assist people with your birthday or Christmas gifts!

Sorry chap, the place is full. No room at the inn.

Try West Wales, I've heard that they have a few vacancies.

You'd better look at the thread lower down in this electronics area, as you may not want to spend money for the DSC feature, which apparently is illegal in UK, if the thread is correct!

SR there's a problem with your link (it points to a user profile not a thread). I suspect the thread is also out of date as S.Horizon have recently launched this in the UK with much advertising etc having recently gained approval.

Polwart you are quite right, standard horizon have produced the HX851E , a handheld WATERPROOF VHF/GPS that is DSC type approved, was released last month.

NO WAY i've had the campsite at Carbis Bay booked or nearly 12 months, will be launching from Hayle and hopefully Penzance while there. Anyone about end of August?

Best wishes

Jake

PS: I may also make the odd visit to the Sloop Inn at St. Ives

I thought I was quick removing the link, but you must have been sitting on the thread. Is there a way to copy and paste threads as links into replies?

If you have a thread open then just copy and paste from the address bar. If you've not opened the link then right click on the TITLE of the thread and "Copy Link Location" (note this is in Firefox, IE/Chrome etc may use slightly different names) - then paste in your reply. I suspect this is what you did but you right clicked on the "thread starter" rather than the title.
