Yamaha GPS Speed

Hi all,
The 6Y5 digital speedometer for my Yamaha F150 has never worked since I purchased the RIB. I cleaned the intake hole in the lower leg and checked that the tube was clear all the way to the gauge but still no improvement, I only ever get a max speed reading of about 5kts even when doing 40kts actual boat speed.

Today, I removed the gauge from the consul and put a new short length of tube onto the gauge, I started very gently blowing into the tube, but couldn't get any speed reading until blowing quite hard, the most I could manage was 12kts blowing hard as I could so I think sometime in the past it's been damaged.

My next thought was to switch to GPS speed, from what I can tell I need cable 6Y5-87112-S0-00 but can't find one in the UK, anyone any ideas where I might be able to purchase what I need?

Cheers all

I wouldnt give up so easily ,from some distant memory i can remember doing same blow test as you ,i think the pressures reqired alot more than you think plus of course you cant blow very hard !!, if i remeber my next move may have been a regulated air line ,but i do remember i never bought a new one !!

Thanks Orwell Boy,
I'll give that a go tomorrow and see what result I get. Think I'll be on the water on Tuesday for the first run of this year, looking like a nice day again in Cornwall.

You were right Orwell Boy, I used a pump to put pressure in the line and got some good results so happy the gauge is working. The problem I think is in the line between the engine and gauge. The hole in the lower leg is clear so think maybe the tube has got squeezed somewhere.

You can cut the Sumitumo plug off the back of the speedo and bare the white wire - if you connect this white wire to NMEA0183 output then the speedo will display the gps speed.
