ANNOUNCING CARSON RIBS’ INTERCEPTOR MK 2: “INNOVA” (Prices from approx. £50k)

CARSON RIBS’ STEPPED HULLS: FROM QUICKSTEP TO INTERCEPTORS TO INNOVA (Prices from approx. £50k)

The high performance stepped hull Carson RIBs models are undergoing further development. “Innova”, the updated Interceptor designs, will give even more performance from the same power with better fuel economy and lower running costs. Sizes range from 6.5 to 20 metres with speed options to over 70kts and potential range of 2,000 miles. Prices from approx. £50k for a 6.5m.

Construction will be aluminium or infusion moulded. Like all Carson RIBs the new models will have a long life and be recyclable at end of life. Further details are coming soon.

BACKGROUND

The Carson Interceptor models are based on an original 1994 7.5m stepped hull design dubbed the “Quickstep” model. Quickstep was the first production RIB with a stepped hull and cabin. Despite being relatively heavy with its commercial spec construction, inboard engine, etc., the stepped hull gave this design more speed for a given horsepower (50kts with 250-300hp). Handling was excellent with level fast acceleration onto the plane, a dry ride, good directional stability and exceptional grip in turns. An open version was also available. While inboards were most popular outboards were also fitted. Customers ranged from leisure users to commercial and security services.

One privately owned 7.5m Quickstep has cruised extensively around the British Isles, the Aegean and in recent years crossed the North Sea to explore the Norwegian Arctic (links below).

INNOVATIVE INTERCEPTORS

Based on the Quickstep design a totally new model was introduced in 2017 at the Seawork Show in the UK. Named the Carson Interceptor Class, sizes ranged from 7.5m – 10.5m. They proved to be exceptional boats attracting much attention with their eye catching angular features, deep V hulls with vertical semi wave-piercing bows and multiple hull steps. Professional media wrote about them including Maritime Journal and the Royal Institute of Naval Architect’s (RINA) various publications.

Its handling and amazing performance was highly praised by many experienced professionals. Firm orders quickly followed. With exceptional performance, seaworthiness and handling the Carson Interceptors have many applications. The updated models are set to raise the standards further.
