As many of you have heard the RYA are updating the way the
Short Range Certificate (SRC) is delivered and assessed from January 2014
There are a number of myths circulating as to the length of the
new SRC course, changes to the syllabus and so on. At Stormforce Coaching we intend for the course to be as accessible as possible and we will not be dragging it over two days or even a day and a half as has been proposed at some centres.
THE ASSESSMENT
Firstly in order to maintain the
RYA SRC validity internationally the
SRC course will now be assessed differently. Students who complete a
one day SRC course will now follow straight onto a
RYA SRC exam at the end of the course as opposed to the continual assessment method we have used for the last thirteen years. For details and information click this
link about the RYA SRC exam.
It is intended that the
RYA SRC Exam follows straight on from the
RYA SRC Course and NOT that it is a stand alone session.
THE ONLINE OPTION
As an alternative to completing the
one day SRC Course students can from January 2014 opt to take the
RYA SRC online course instead. You will be able to take the
SRC online course from anywhere in the world as long as you have a broadband connection. Versions have been developed for PC, Mac and iPad. Throughout the
RYA online SRC course we will offer support to students who require it.
Having completed the
RYA SRC online course students can then book a convenient time to take the
SRC exam at our centre. As we have plenty classrooms, offices and full time Assessors, we are happy to arrange exams 7 days a week at a time that suits you. We anticipate a number of students completing the
online SRC course and then taking the
SRC exam with us when they are with us anyway on a
RYA Powerboat course or
RYA Yachting Course.
