Starting a build on a 530 Zodiac Hurricane for my wife and kids so they have something to get on the water this summer.

I'd like to do that one of these days.

Of course, not having a wife or kids, would mean that I'd have to take it out and play...

Did you have any issues with the bolts on the inside that held the flange that clamped down the inside skirt of the tubes? If so what do you plan to go back with??

Hi Ryan,

Did a search and found this dead thread. Did you ever finish this build?

I have the same boat and am going to start refurbishing it in may. Interested to know what issues you had with the floor (was it wooden and rotten?) and what the structure underneath looks like.

on the shelf

i put this project on hold as the entire floor was done! i need to put in a all new floor and it was just more work for the boat than i thought it was worth. So i have put it on the shelf. not sure if i will ever make it back to that build.

Wow, the whole floor was gone from stem to stern? How did you know, was it spongy under foot or did you drill some test holes?

I stamped and hammered all over the deck of the one I bought, did not feel soft or sound "dead' anywhere. I'm worried now though, hope I'm not in for the same job

It looked to me like the floor was fibreglass (judging by the recesses molded in for portable gas tanks and center drainage channel). Is it glass over wood, balsa core material between glass skins, or simply wood with gelcoat over the top?

yes

Their were several soft spots on the floor. the floor is glad then 1/4 balsa then glass. my whole deck was saturated. I drilled 14 test holes 7 on each side and they all same up with water.

I guess thats the downside to balsa core, water must have got in around the jockey seat bolt holes and just wicked through the floor.

Did you put any test holes in the hull? I'm assuming that is balsa cored too.
