Birthday Cake delivery...
This was our last weekend with the old 2 stroke, so we thought we'd take one last run to bid it farewell. Our friend who has a cabin on a private island, in South Bay on Manitoulin Island was having a birthday, so we thought we would surprise her with a cake... The weather forecast was reasonable, although winds were to climb to 20 - 25 knots south-westerly late in the afternoon, which would be broadside to us on our return...
All in all a great little trip... 79 nm return...
1) Mrs. Stoo takes the helm
2) Cove Island Light (celebrating 150 years this year), and the unofficial "edge" of our water...
3) Dogs love boats... Ours think it's a truck without windows
4)Approaching the entrance to South Bay in Manitoulin
5) The swinging town of South Baymouth... population 382, including dogs

Birthday girl wasn't home!
So we drive 40 miles to our friend's island, to discover she wasn't home. After waiting an hour, we ate part of her cake, wrote a note and prepared to leave. Fortunately, our ill-behaved dogs were having way too much fun tearing around the place and while we tried to entice them back into the boat, Mrs. Stoo, spotted action on the mainland shore... and the birthday girl was on her way back...
We finished the cake, washed it down with a couple of cold ones, and hit the proverbial road...
On our return, the wind had picked up as promised, giving us some nice 5-6 footers on our beam to make the ride home a little more interesting...
1) Her cabin, built by her Grand-dad and Great Uncle in the '30s. No power, scenic outhouse...
2) Mrs. Stoo writes the note... note the missing corner of cake!
3) On the way back, we stopped to stretch at Indian Harbour on Fitzwiliam Island
4) Typical Shore
5) And frog heaven

Just as we approached Tobermory on our return, a squall blew through, but we were safe ashore before it opened up...
All in all a great little trip. Average speed was 32 knots, average fuel consumption about 1.2 litres per nautical mile. (I know, it's quasi-metric, but that's how I keep track!)

great pics
Last time I was on Manitoulin Island was when I hitchhiked across Canada. I was a teen and that was about 30 years back. Spent about 5 years doing outward bounds adventure with kids from Children Aid and the Court system. One of my favorite places with young kids was just up from half way dump near Tobermory. Lovely area and I have lots of fond memories from there. The Newfoundland escarpment always reminded me a bit of your neck of the woods. Enjoyed the pics.

We were in Newfoundland a couple of years ago and thought the same thing. Although everything is about five times the size... Tobermory on steroids!

Ya, she's a good friend! It was a great excuse for a trip though. This weekend has been the nicest few days of the season here. In fact I just got in from a wee sunset cruise...

Nice, very nice spot from Yève seen in pics and has been a must see on my list to go boating and as well diving. Not going to be this season but most likely next one. Love the pics.

Be sure to let me know when you come... I'm sure we could get a few dives in. There was a gang up from someplace near Quebec Ciity this past weekend in a big Bombard... they had a perfect weekend!

She was touched with the gesture I think... The reality is, I just wanted a nice long boat trip and this excuse seemed to justify it to the Missus...
