spring is coming
I pulled the winter cover off today. I'm an optimist, it's still a month before I get her in, but, it least I can begin getting her ready. I have a couple of minor projects, installing a new keelguard, installing additional vents on the jockey seats and anchor locker and giving her a good cleaning and coat of polyguard. It's amazing how dirty a boat gets over the winter, even under a cover.

Sorry, guys;
I've been boating all winter. I'd assume that our SoCal friends have not only been boating, but been warm doing it.

Just so you know jyk, I'm waving at you at this very moment, using just my middle finger!
We've had a fairly easy winter here this year.. no prolonged -40 for days and days, not tons of snow. Just kinda "bla" a lot of the time. But with a solid lake outside...
This is the harbour in front of my place. The ramp is down there in the far right corner, so we need a strong SW blow to push the ice out.
There is hope though... looking the other direction out to Georgina Bay.
I'm off to Utila, Honduras for a week of diving anyway, and I hope we'll get in up here when I get back.

Looks like the ice is breaking up nicely - it shouldn't be too much longer for you. Hopefully the rivers here will be ice-free within 2-3 weeks. The lakes may take an additional couple of weeks.

Yup, one good wind could do it... or plug it in again. There's apparently a certain amount of ice floating around out in the lake, but no huge areas.
I have found these little Hurricanes actually make half decent icebreakers if you go slow... I'm not going to try until I get back. I always love that first dive when I'm back from "south"... 82F and then 39F a few days later... Ugh...

I fired up my engine last night. Installing a new seat (amazing how light they are when they aren't waterlogged!) and going diving on Sunday!
The weather forecast is awesome... not that that means anything...

Phew - way too hot !
Hit 103' here monday all time record for San Diego in April !
Not too comfortable here inland but would have been great on the water.
Have the Newport to Ensenada and border run yacht races to cover this weekend, so a nice cooling trend in effect and down to 70' ; much better
Got the XS all gassed up and ready to go with her sunscreen on (303 protectant) All nice and shiny
cheers Dal

It generally is very clear, especially if it hasn't rained. Diving, we often get visibility approaching 100', sometimes even more. Twenty years ago, 10' - 15' was more like it. Unfortunately, the reason is partly that the influx of Zebra mussels has cleaned up the water of a lot of stuff, at the expense of native species...
In case you missed it, you'll see we still have ice hanging on the rocks, but only in the shady places!
Limeydal, you can have your 103! I'd melt!

We are lucky to get 5' but as you go further West it gets much better - the amount of sand and silt the river carries down is amazing - probably enough to build every house in the world.
I did notice the ice - and the water looks like gin - all you need now is some tonic!!!

80' Vis in near Thunder Bay
While setting mooring bouys on the wreck of the Thew, the wreck could be seen from the surface. The wreck lies in 80ft of water.
Awesome visability is a benifit of spring time diving in the Great Lakes.
Woo Hoo!!
