Konrad Emergency Tiller

I looked at a ex mil Willard 7M for sale recently that the owner said he purchased at auction.
It was your standard diesel IO configuration with the Konrad outdrive.
There was a W shaped block/wedge with a slot in it located on top of the outdrive that myself and the owner had no idea what it was.
When I opened the storage box over the drive shaft area, I found a L shaped bracket that was an emergency tiller that fit in the slot. It also had an extension for the handle.

I have never seen one of these, and didn't even know they existed.
Pretty cool idea.

Has anyone here ever had to use one, or seen one in use?

Nope. I didn't even think about it.

I would have to imagine if you ever had a steering control loss, you could just grab the top of your engine cover and muscle it around a little?

Have had to fasten two paddles to the side of an Outboard before to make an emergency tiller. Rough and ready but worked.
