New Rib Owner
Howdy everyone,
Just bought a rib before I found this site.. Oh well, life's a, well, you get the point. Anyway, bought a zodiac hurricane 590 with twin 70 yamaha's. I have heard good things about this boat from people who know a little, but I want to hear things about it from people who know a lot. The boat was made in 89, the motors were made in 90. Paid 15K US for it, hope it wasnt too much.. Oh well, too late now.. Well, lemme have it,
Jimmy

Howdy Jimmy
If everything is in solid condition, tubes, motors, and hull I think $15 is a really good price. Photos would help too. Is it an ex-military or a civilian version? I'm not familiar with the particular model I'm certain another rib.netter would know more.
Congrats on your purchase. Welcome to rib.net.

Yet another Yank - seems like the Rib message is slowly getting across at last!!!
Sounds like a good price - especially as Ribs are so rare in the US - hurry up and post some pics so we can all see it.
Bet you will have a load of fun with it - remember they are built for rough water!!!

Nice RIB, looks like a fair price. Some serious bits of hardware on there, from the a-frame to the tow bollard. Always good to welcome another ribber from the US!

Is that a bowhunting stand on the A-frame ?
Nice hull too, better than the civilian version of the 90s by the look of it

I appreciate it's been a while since ths thread surface, but Jimmy, I have had a 590 for 10 years and there's not a thing I would change about the boat. It's small enough that I can trail it easily, but big enough that it can take on most weather easily.
I envy your twin engines though. I use a single Yamaha 150. It has been very reliable, but TWICE, I have blown a cylinder which cost $8000 to replace each time. (I replaced the entire power head.. effectively a new motor). Fortunately, both times it happened, I was close to my home port... Otherwise, it runs like a clock! ;-)

RIBnet North America
The boat you have pictured belonged to my Co., the Inflatable Boat center, in Portland Oregon. It started with twin Suzuki 75's. The rack in the back was custom built to hold an ice chest/fish box as we did do alot of fishing from the boat. We held them down with white water 1" straps. There was also a yellow box that went across, in front of the transom with 2 hatch lids on it that we kept 2 18 gallon fuel bladders in to extend our range. My wife and friends also used them for a comfortable seat. I fished that boat across the Columbia River Bar and had several trips into Canada including across the Straits. These boats are Commercial/Military grade hand laid fibreglass reinforced hulls with a 1680 D Hypalon tube set. You have purchased a very nice and well built boat capable of going just about anywhere you can stand.
I now have a CZ7 24' Zodiac Hurricane with twin 150's on it and just completed a 4 month trip to Alaska and back, driving and towing it behind my 42' trawler.
Good Luck, sorry I am so late in responding but I just returned.

Interesting..
Wow,
Very interesting to find the previous owner of my boat after so long. This boat has been on some travels it seems. It is as you say, exteremely capable, and I have not been scared enough to run from weather yet. It is set up exactly as you had it, Even still have the bladders. One began to leak at a seam this year though, so I though it best to retire them. I am planning to put a cabin on the back this year, and to raise the front deck to about 3 inches over the level of the tubes and put a 55 gallon tank under the rased deck forward of the console, as lots of fuel is required to go fishing up here. I am also going to remove the yellow box and put three suspension seats in the rear to make riding easier on the older passengers I seem to allways have.
Jimmy

Is it a trawler yacht you have - or just a trawler??? What's it like towing a big RIB for long periods of time?
