Ooops, missed the harbor entrance

limeydal caught this Saturday afternoon - drunken boater missed the entrance to Mission Bay (San Diego, CA) and ran his boat up on the beach. limeydal is standing on the north jetty and the boater came in north of the channel. Wave faces Saturday afternoon were 8-10ft.

That didn't look like 8-10 to me... Guy's lucky he didn't roll the boat when surfing the waves.

Saw pics of a similar incident coming from SF Bay into the Oakland Estuary; boat apparently missed the Estuary proper and hit the rock wall to the west doing over 20 kts. I think one killed, one seriously injured. No real waves in SF Bay, but what was left of the boat ended up about 6 feet above the high tide water line.

I surfed Fri/Sat/Sun - Easily 12 ft. faces here in San Diego. I'm 6'4 and sets on Saturday were "double overhead", easily.

I was trying to be conservative by saying 8-10 ft. so no one would question me!

Either way, no matter how big it was, this guy passed pretty close to the surfers at a high rate of speed. The lifeguards weren't too happy with him (a friend was on duty that day). He was heavily intoxicated - it could have been bad.

Police turned up the next day, requesting copies of the video.
Seems the drivers argued "he wasn't at the wheel"

Hmmm , seems he is going to loose that argument !

No, he was up in La Jolla at the time (though he is assigned to the boat team). He sent me this though:

RIBase
Good pictures. Didn't realise there were surfers in the water. The boat was all over the place coming in. How can you miss the harbour entrance?

Didn't know where to share this link, 'Ooops, missed the harbor entrance' Thread seemed like the most appropriate....

18ft Zodiac Pro 550 Open Rib 115HP Yamaha | eBay

I wonder if the rock and roll mannequin comes with it
