Possible rib voyage

Hi LTF,

I would really like to blast over to Block Island. Michele is off the first week of September, if that sounds like a possible plan let me know and we can throw some dates around. Do you still have a contact on the island so we would have a place to dock? Anyone else interested?

Bill

I'm new to ribs and boating in general - this is my second season with a Novurania 15' (MX460DL) with a Yamaha 90. Does anyone think I'm nuts for considering this on a small rib like mine?

In my limited experience as long as you are smart, the weather good and have all the right safty eqpt. I would think it wouldnt be too bad. You would be with other boats, something that I prefer. I belive it is about 13 miles off shore. We could even follow the ferry. I know a few friends that head over there on there jetskis. Feel free to think about it .

trip dates

I finally got in front of a calendar to look for Block Island dates. As early as Aug. 30th or 31st, Sept. 1st, 3rd, 5th or 6th are all good dates for us. I don't know what's going on with Gustav or if it will have any affect on our trip. The only possible glitch is my mom has been ill as of late, if she has a relapse I might not be able to go.

One question, which boat ramp would you recommend?

Bill

We have a date.

Saturday, September 6th is the day. We will be launching at the Galilee R.I. ramp at 10:00 am. See http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bnatr...tlnch.htm#salt for address.

Block Island is about 13 miles out, so it should be a good ride. LTF is working on getting us someplace to tie up when we get there.

Any other ribbers interested?

Bill

Would love to go, but I'll be in the air on my way to Beijing for the Paralympics. I'll be stuck ashore or on a spectator boat, no ribbing on the Yellow Sea for me

You can follow my wife's sailing results at www.sailchallengeinspire.org if your interested. Racing starts Sept 8. I'll be writing the updates for that site and posting photos as well.

I'd love to go. But I'm worried about the forecast esp in my small boat:

COASTAL WATERS FROM MONTAUK NY TO BLOCK ISLAND RI TO MARTHAS
VINEYARD MA TO NANTUCKET MA SOUTHEAST TO 20 NM-
409 PM EDT TUE SEP 2 2008

SAT
E WINDS 15 TO 20 KT...BECOMING SE 15 TO 25 KT EARLY IN THE
AFTERNOON...THEN BECOMING S 20 TO 30 KT IN THE LATE EVENING AND
OVERNIGHT. SEAS 4 TO 7 FT... BUILDING TO 7 TO 10 FT. A CHANCE OF
SHOWERS...THEN SHOWERS LIKELY WITH A CHANCE OF TSTMS.

It would be great to have you. We are also looking at the weather too. As early as last week ribfan and I had discussed the possiblility of the hurricane hitting this weekend. It does look like this sat will be just when it is hitting. I am not looking for anything other than an enjoyable experience. I have no intention on fighting any bad weather and I dont believe ribfan does either. We probaly will just keeping an eye on the storm and will see hwat later in the week brings. If it is not right mayby we will reschedual it another time. Keep checking back and its nice to see another rib owner in New England, where abouts are you in MA

saturdays a washout

Much to my dismay, saturday does not look like a block island day, or any kind of a boating day for that matter. I'm not sure about another day this fall because I have commitments for the next bunch of weekends.

Block Island may have to wait for spring 09.

If anything changes, I'll give you a call.

Bill
