Are you referring to a Nissan TD42T ? I have a TD42 (non-turbo) in my Nissan Safari. They are quite possibly the most durable small automotive engine ever made. There are guys in australia that have over 3 million kms on their TD42 engines in their Nissan Patrols.
If you added a water to air intercooler, you could add a very substantial amount of power as well.

We removed 60- 20L buckets of silt and figured they weighed about 60lbs each or 3600lbs removed.
We pulled the 2 fuel tanks to get the silt from behind them also lifted the floor plates and cleaned under them. It looks like a different boat now.
We finally got to the engine mounts and removed the 496 cu in engine.
With the engine out we measured the centre line of the jet drive and found that the Nissan engine's oil pan would hit the inner hull. Not good
We talked about it and decided to refresh the gas guzzler and then think about a diesel for a winter project
I pulled the 496 engine apart--pressure washed and cleaned everything , then put it the bottom end back together. Now waiting for a gasket set before putting the heads on.
While we pulled the engine apart a couple of friends cleaned the cabin.
The boat sure is a lot lighter with all the mud removed.
We found a exhaust valve that was damaged?? but everything else looks brand new, it should as there is only 11 engine hours on the Hobbs Meter.
We did find some damage to the fresh water cooling header tank and have it at the welders place.
We will install the 496 gasser and think about a diesel conversion this winter.
