We did a BananaShark 770 with a remote USB socket in the glove box and a regular head unit - plug your memory stick in and instant tunes - even came up with the track name - add a wired waterproof remote and you're done!
I must admit that I think the easiest and neatest installation is the Ipod in a waterproof box, amp and speakers from Marine AV - this is the amp we use: http://www.marine-audio.com/Products...and-Alone-.htm

We built it and that's what we call it - what would you call our "glove box" then?

I agree that the iPod+ amp+ remote is a neat installation and has the advantage that you can use the Ipod for other purposes and it is more powerful. Question: is the amp. USB connection powered so it charges the iPod? However, you are only using the iPod as a memory stick ( kinda expensive in comparison) and you do not get am/fm/cd etc. it is an expensive solution compared to a full featured head with USB and ipod inputs. Still cannot make my mind up which way to go though.

It's still working fine! You just download tunes from windows media player onto a USB stick and choose what you want on the regular display.

That unit looks realy good for the price, makes me regret the £100 I spent on a Sony marine CD player.
Ebay does have some good speakers on sale at the mo, just got the ones I bought last week, two pairs of Sony marine 140w 6.5inch speakers for £76 delivered.
Big enough to blast around the harbour and annoy everyone if I ever have the urge to be a hooligan :-)

Have just ripped about 700 songs from CD's into iTunes which has an automatic convert to mp3 feature. it is then a simple matter of copy and paste onto a usb memory stick using windows explorer. takes very little time to build a huge custom play list. If you google " rocktheboat" you will find a huge selection of marine audio stuff, including a black box kit w. remote and usb inputs.

The Poly Planer marine systems look very good, like the look of the MRD 70 but expensive with all the extras, but the 630-MP3-KIT-A is not bad :-
A water resistant, entry level MP3 player based sound system kit
designed for yacht tenders, RIBs, and other small craft.
ME-50 50 watt waterproof Amplifier with separate panel mount
waterproof volume control
IC3.5-PM Panel mount 3.5mm MP3 connector for IPod or other MP3
players
MA-4055 5” coaxial waterproof speakers with speaker wires
included.
ssp £112-95 inc vat in UK or $179-95 in USA
