Usually about this time the Birnie bros decide to resume their terrorizing of the Lake Michigan boating community, eating snakes, chasing the Coast guard, zipping down the Mississippi, generally creating havoc and having fun with the red ufo, seems to me they ought to be out breaking ice bergs on the big Lake, anyone heard or seen from them? We need some entertainment here on the N. American forum, hell I think even Stoo is probably down south somewhere, anyone home?
You know it is getting bad when you are soliciting responses from other ribbers but we just dug out of over Twenty inches of snow on Saturday here in O-Hi-O and I'm like a junkie with no fix (add boat and water) Please... Somebody give a little hope, I CAN'T TAKE IT NO MORE!!! I NEED SPRING!!

Pat,
saw that snowstorm on the news;you guys are getting walloped this year. So much for global warming

Here's a few suggestions to keep you occupied ;from our weekend

Take the family crabbing - Oh forgot, they are probably all frozen stiff
Go fly a kite -OOps,the blizzard will probably rip your arms off !
Chase a hardboater around - damn, lakes still frozen !
Go whalewatching on a classic tall ship Drat; forgot-they've all gone south

Exactly - I LOVE snow - you can have great fun. What can you do in constant rain and gales over Force 8 for most of the year???

Just been down to check on my boat - the sea is boiling - just a mass of white - 14' waves straight into the harbour and 75mph winds - I'm glad I put the extra ropes on!!!

you must be paranoid. i wasn't having a go... ...you asked a question; i gave an answer, based on what most people in this country seem to like to do to pass the time during the bad weather. Perhaps I should have included excessive punctuation marks to help express my opinion?

If I was having a go I would have pointed out that "most of the year" was a gross exageration; or reminded you that it is within your control to upsticks to somewhere with better weather.

I don't know Tuber... Let me ask you, do YOU feel any warmer this month? Or winter for that matter...
In our area typical average temps are down about 12 - 13 degrees daily so far for the month.

I've been in Tomas' neighborhood... a little diving, a little sailing, a lot of rumming (Is that a sport?) and a little marrying.

And since winter is still here (lovely freezing rain here this AM) I'm going back in 3 1/2 weeks.

I called the boat storage guy yesterday and backed up my retrieval by a couple of weeks. As you can see, the lake is still a little "lumpy"...

These are the mainly two misunderstood parts of Global warming.
The weather will get warmer-
In some parts yes, mainly what will happen is average temperatures globally will be higher but locally the weather will be more extreme, hotter and colder with higher winds and more rain. The weather is driven by heat and the corolios effect of the earth turning. The extra heat in the atmosphere just makes all weather more extreme unevenly.
We caused it all-
nobody is really sure as the Earth goes through cycles of heating and cooling, and although the supposition is that because we are in the middle of a cooling stage and the earth is getting warmer that we are, the short answer is nobody is really sure, yet!
The main issue really is that by the time we are sure that if it turns out all to be true it will probably be too late to stop and a runaway greenhouse effect will take place, again something that has happened in earths past and is bad news for us.
The good news is that my house is 150ft up at the back of town and a rise in sea level will mean my house will sit on a cliff edge over the sea and the value will rocket! pity about the town though..........

I'm in a similar situation... only backwards. The folks on the other side of the peninsula in Lake Huron who formerly had water-front properties, now have water-view properties. The water level here has dropped about 5-6 feet over the past decade. Mind you, with this year's snow pack, and the fact the lake has been pretty frozen all winter, I expect it will come back at least some.

We are experiencing heavy snow again this AM with 15 cm expected and strong winds.

Pat, didn't you get hammered again last weekend? I was in Vermont skiing and got 17" over Thursday night and Friday...

Yes Stoo, we did... Only eight inches this time on Friday nite into Saturday morning... God was kind... I kinda have my doubts about hell being a lake of fire, imagine a permanently frozen lake! I have included a couple of pics for perspective on your inquiry, in the first, notice the torn and battered smaller tarp, it was new in the fall, now it's not. The second is a shot of the back yard and the "other" vessel, I have had to climb up and clear snow off the winter cover on account of the tenting being collapsed due to snowfall this March.
You know the Lakes provide the best recreational boating area in the world, If it wasn't for that I'd be long gone from the northern climes... C'mon Spring!

Finally, even with the continuing snow, our local harbor is open. We were hoping to best our earliest launch of March 12 a few years ago this year but a foot of ice thwarted our attempts. March 24th it will have to be this year.

What a miserable winter this has been!

Well well... the irrepressible Birnie Bros finally show up, I'd wondered whether or not you two had decided on tackling the Nile or the Amazon this winter since we had heard neither hide nor hair of you all winter on Ribnet? It's not hard to imagine you two wrestling a Anaconda in S.A. given your previous exploits with snakes, ribs and big rivers... Good to see you have launched as it gives me confidence regarding my own situation, can launch be that far now for War Machine? I think not! Although... I must confess, it does appear you are not overjoyed standing in your rib at the ramp, not the best boating temperatures? And or conditions absolutely... It does however, considerably beat doing what I was doing tonight, once again knocking down the piles of snow underneath the boat trailer so I can get her out asap!
