Whale Rescue So Cal Rib

We did our first whale disentanglement here in Southern California.

Rescue boat a Zodiac 650 pro 20ft

Support boat was my new Apex 24

Whale she was in bad shape dragging a net possibly from mexico waters.

One of the rescue team members fell in on top of the whale.

The whale passed away a few days later. The rope had cut her tail so bad from dragging the net for hundreds of miles
she could use her tail, died of malnutrition and injury.

I named her Lilly

RIP
Such beautiful creatures

I followed that story on the Sign on San Diego website. Sorry it ended up the way it did.

FWIW, a buddy of mine was one of the divers in the disentanglement saga offshore of SF a couple of years ago. They ended up having a lawsuit filed (then retracted) by the Marine Mammal Center (despite having been given the go-ahead by them before setting out.)

Anyway, I appreciate what you guys did. At least Lilly wasn't tied up in her last hours.

Hi B,
Saw that shot of the crewman falling overboard on the front page of the local rag !
Wondered if you were around.
( Was it your shot?? )

So sorry to hear of the loss !
The last I read , she headed off ; so sad to hear she didn't make it.
