Where, What?
Hiya! It's getting cold here in New Zealand and my thoughts are turning to the hot, summer weather in Florida and the fun times we had fishing the waters near Ozello. Growing up we used fiberglass boats (I think we had a CrisCraft?) but now that I've experienced RIBs, I'd love to go back and do it all over again in rubber.
I miss the States and fantasize about what I'd be doing in our RIB if I were there. Which makes me wonder what you all are doing in your RIBs? Are you fishing for flounder in the Chesapeake? Chasing vanguards at your local YC? Diving wrecks off Chicago? Accessing remote hunting sites?
We're winter fishing here but it doesn't curb my homesickness - I'd love to hear your stories of home...
cheers,
gruntessa

Jesus that looks cold. Two of my work mates are emigrating to New Zealand in August. Are they going to be cold ? I thought it was like Shorts all year round in NZ.

Where and what..
My adventures are this.... my boat is still sitting in my driveway although I will have a comprehensive update at the end of the weekend on the thread I normally post to, tomorrow we launch, I hope everything goes well but I always wonder if there isn't some small significant detail I have neglected to address, which will result in the boat not running. Fingers crossed!

Been heading out for diving 2 out of every 3 weekends. Usually 2 day trips to Monterey, 2 or 3 dives a day. Cold water: our temps have been below 50F for the past month or so. Average temp is more like mid-fifties. Diving here is year-round (though you have to dodge storms in winter.)
For me, it's a 100 mile tow from home to Monterey, and a 3 mile tow from the ramp to the motel.
End of this month is a 3 day abalone trip up north. Weather's slammed us the last 3 trips, hopefully we'll be able to get abs and some diving in this time (which is what I said every other time, too.)
July 4th is supposed to be heading out on the SF Bay to watch fireworks. We'll see...
Next weekend it's back to Monterey.

Depends whereabouts they are going to be. Temperature aren't too dissimilar from the UK, maybe slightly wider range. Not sure I would want to emigrate, but a fantastic place to visit if you are into the 'great outdoors'.
And it is 'shorts all year round' if you are hard enough . In the background of the attached photo is one of our guides on Fox Glacier, complete with shorts. Needless to say we were being kept company by Messrs. Berghaus, Rohan and Face

Well, as they say, there's no inappropriate weather - only inappropriate gear. I'm not so sure if my fishing outfit is appropriate but it keeps me toasty (and to Grant's relief, keeps me from moaning about being cold and wanting to go ashore!)
Biggles, your friends will be arriving in the height of winter - and, yes, they are going to freeze. Chris is right though - the temps will vary dramatically depending on location. And in some places, like Christchurch, you can actually experience all four seasons in one day!
jky - your photos are fantastic! Definitely looks like a 100 mile trip and fifty degree water are worth the effort - wow. really amazing stuff.
Holy Schmokes, Pathalla - I just found your thread on the War Machine! Now, that's a RIB!!

Funny You Should Ask....
I was just contemplating posting a few pics taken today... this seems like a good spot for them. This weekend saw perfect weather in Tobermory, although Friday afternoon wrapped up with a pretty major squall...
1. "Little Tub" Harbour... one of two in Tobermory... and my front yard
2. Heading out with the beast and SO
3. Suiting up to dive the wreck of the "Forest City"... 155' to the bottom, 39F
4. Post-dive basking (The lawn chairs are her idea... but they have drink holders in the arm!)
5. Looks warm, but after wading for about a minute, I couldn't feel my legs!

That is the south side of Bear's Rump Island. It's part of Bruce Peninsula National Park (as are almost all of the islands around here as well as a huge whack of "real" land). I have never, in 30 years coming here, seen another person on this island, although the odd dive boat comes past. There isn't any camping allowed unfortunately, although, I suppose that's not a bad thing...
