Wintering in San diego

Seems like one of the northern tour companies has come down for the winter season.

That makes three RIB tour boats operating out of San Diego.
Interesting to see the passengers limited to 6
Wonder if that's a California thing ,as it seems the captain has a 100 ton license !

Caught them heading out after the gray whales today.

He is able to take 16 passengers in Washington but only the 6 pack in San Diego. He is doing whale watching tours that include a visit to the Coronado Islands. Here is his website for San Diego....

http://sandiegowhalewatchingtours.com/

Check out his blog, he has some amazing pictures of Orcas, Humpbacks, Grey's, Risso's and lots of other dolphins all of which he has found off San Diego.

His name is Ivan and he runs a great tour!

Seemed like a class act when I ran into him.
Didn't have chance to chat, as we were doing 30+ side by side

He even obliged and banked to let me get a better shot of his boat.

Saw him interviewed on local TV news , when he got the images of the whales scooping up Krill . Great shots !!

Hope to run into him again soon
cheers Dal

I was talking to the dive boat captain this past weekend (Peace, out of Ventura); and he was mentioning that there are differing equipment and training requirements if operating below Pt. Conception or above, and still more if you venture south of the border. Might have something to do with it.
