In the first photo you can see the two plastic crates that I can reach and pull to
hatch opening.

You could simply use some thin rubber drawer liner on the inside bottom of the box to keep things from sliding inside the box. Some of the same on the outside bottom would help keep the box from sliding as well.

Finding a good way to keep the "Essentials" from rattling and bouncing around
is a real concern.Obviously that would be a bad thing.

That's why I always get the "essentials" in cans, not bottles. My storage unit is made by Igloo.

Is it sealed in case the deck floods? That would keep the "Essentials" nice and cool, but might not be so useful for everything else.
