Interesting build. Attention to detail is fantastic. Your wiring plan wouldn't be out of place on a Boeing 747.

Final

I feel like this should be close to final. Hope this helps any one else out that might be doing a rewire on a single engine OB 7m.

getting the electronics dry fit

We are cutting out all the holes before we go to paint. Just waiting on a few parts.

Starting to lay out the panel

doing all the routing for the wires to come from the back side of the panel. When i am done with all the routing i will smooth it all out with a deburing tool then sand it down with 320.

Hey guys,

Haven't really introduced myself on this forum, but I've been a lurker for a couple years now and found this forum very helpful. My name is Dylan, live in CA and I've owned three ribs. Now I'm anxiously awaiting my 4th.

First of all I have to thank the guys at Defender who made this possible for me. They got me into my first rib ever and gave such epic support along the way. Long long story, but they went so far above and beyond the call of customer service to get me out of my last boat that wasn't right for me for several reasons... All I can say is that I owe a deep debt to them. Thank you.

Anyway, I'm chiming in now because Ryan is building this boat for me. I am so happy to have found him and the process has been amazing. First off, he is one of the coolest dudes you'll meet. And obviously, you all know his level of craftsmanship. Every picture he sends is like a present from Santa himself!

Ryan and I were put in touch through another board member who was kind enough to reply to a PM and spent some time on the phone with me answering some very important questions (Thanks, you know who you are... I much appreciated your time)

Anyway, I called Ryan and we talked about what I was looking to accomplish with my next rib (spearfishing first and foremost, also wanted to carry surfboards to outer islands, and needed to be comfortable enough for my family of 4 to make quick blasts over to Catalina for hikes etc... and lastly a livewell for those offshore paddy hunting trips when the tuna stay outside speargun range!)

Ryan was fascinated by the mission, and agreed to do the build for me. I could not have been happier!

Anyway, we worked through my wishlist, Ryan built CAD mockups and we started making real-life decisions. The only thing that didn't quite make it into the final was an insulated fishbox big enough for seabass. Small price to pay for everything else that Ryan was able to make happen. Hot water, speargun rack, livewell, massive storage locker in console, swim step, seating, surf rack, paddy spotting platform in T-top... and more than I can list right now.

Anyway, thanks to all who have made suggestions, please keep them coming. Jason (Biggtalljv) I think it was your suggestion to put a smaller access hatch in the forward console seat so we don't always have to open the large locker hatch. We liked that.

SOOO excited to watch the rest of this build thread and hear what you all think and of course, to take delivery of the final product!

Thanks everyone!

Congrats on the amazing boat you'll have soon Dylan. I'm so jealous! Of course I'll need to see it in person when it arrives...and go spearing. ;-) That's why I have my rib too.

I'm in Moorpark (near Thousand Oaks) where are you?

Congrats again,

John

Thanks guys! I am excited beyond belief!

Would love to hook up with y'all and dive, cruise, tie up, whatever. I plan to use this boat a lot!

John, I am in Southern LA. I will keep the boat in San Pedro.

Again thanks all for your suggestions and advice on this build thread. It all helps.

Will be talking soon...
