Zodiac Pro Open 650

Greetings,

Looking to purchase a Pro Open 650 Hypalon with a Yammi 150. Any comments on the quality of the boat? And suggestions where to purchase it. I am in Canada however I have contacted many North American dealers and their price is almost identical. Does anyone know of a dealer that offers aggressive Zodiac pricing?

Thanks

You should also look at the Bombards... Pretty comparable to the Zodiacs but possibly priced better.

A friend bought a 550 Explorer and is pretty happy with it. The "one up" is likely close to the 650.

Thanks. I can get a better deal on a Bombard however I am leary of getting another PVC boat. I understand the Hypalon stands up much better.

Is the new Bombard PVC (or whatever they call it now) better than the older 1990's version?

I have a 1998 Bombard Explorer 600 with a Yamy 115 and very happy with it in any weather condition. Mine is Hypalon by the way from 9' so I don't know where you get this about them being made of PVC in the 90's.

I was surprised to see a pad about 6" wide at the back of the V-hull, sure makes it ride high and dry in calmer water. I usually maintain 80kph with 130 litres of fuel and 3 people plus some gear onboard. The boat being 12 years old is still very solid but the tubes did give me issues 2 years ago. The seams underneath the cones delaminated a little, I repaired it but also added a large patch of hypalon seeing that is the worst area for friction with water.

Hope this helps

Cheers
John

Bombard

The current fabric(proprietary to them) is much better than the PVC being used in the 1990's. The construction of the fabric is different and it is much stronger and more durable than the older fabric.

Open Pro 650

I've owned one for 5 years now. Absolutely love it. Super safe, light enough to tow around. Can load up with tons of people or gear. We have the t-top version rigged with a Mercury 225. It is rated to 175, which would be plenty. (it came this way...don't ask). We have had a few repairs to the tubes on various accidents--but nothing to worry about. I have to replace the valve inserts as I am getting a small slow leak there...but I expect it will resolve the issue ($12 or something). The boat is well made. We have some cracking of gelcoat around the bow pulpit...nothing major or structural.

I am looking at the exact same boat for myself except with a 115 Suzuki. If you wouldn't mind messaging me, I am interested to see what kind of prices you are getting Quoted with the 150 yamaha.
