Can anyone remember the very first thing the Labour government did when it got into power? Gave themselves a massive pay rise - good old Labour - always look after the poor working man.......

Back on topic for a moment here

I've sent this link to everyone in my address book with a request to forward on to everyone else. If we all did it the whole country would be covered quite fast.

I actually support road pricing. There are simply too many vehicles making too many journeys.

It won't be comfortable, but I can't see any other way of making people really consider whether journeys are necessary, and if so whether driving is the best option.

Punitive fuel taxation doesn't work, we just go "ouch" when we fill up and keep on driving as normal. Directly connecting the cost to each journey will really concentrate the mind.

Of course it won't be simple to implement, and inevitably won't be fair to everyone. I also doubt whether the fuel duty will be reduced accordingly, although it should be. There are lots of issues that need to be considered, but I have yet to see a better suggestion.

Hmm. Let's see where this takes us before I shunt the whole thing off to www.wtf.com!

John

PS Potentially on topic, because road charging should mean lower fuel costs for boating. In my dreams.

I think the road pricing works in France , fuel is much cheaper and you pay if you really need to get somewhere on the motorway . But france isn't overcrowded and they stick together and fight for what they want

I don't want to knock the lorries , but there is too much road transport , but then who got rid of rail transport ?

Open the canals

..all right, let's make a start on dealing with congestion, pollution and over use of dwindling resources...without road pricing.

First step, lets ban the production/import of all privately owned vehicles that produce emissions above 150gm/Mile

Second, let’s take central control of our busses and trains again and accept that they won’t make a profit.

Ok, what next?

. . .and you'd immediately save the rent on one of your warehouses having relinquished a few of your toys!

Yep. There would also need to be a massive increase in capacity to carry all the people forced off the roads.

John you should take a trip to Spain to see road pricing in action. Motorways almost deserted - A roads nose to tail with heavy lorries avoiding the charges. Stick the pricing on the A roads they will move to B roads etc.

Also what would happen if you lost your job and eneded up with one where you HAD to travel a massive distance each day - maybe you would change your mind then?

People really don't realise the MASSIVE difference all Labour's sneaky little plans have made to congestion. Altering traffic lights - getting rid of left filter lanes - stopping new sports venues etc from haivng sufficient parking forcing people to clog up the side roads - bus lanes - speed humps traffic cameras - the list is endless.

What do Labour do to improve traffic flow? Close off many streets - make main roads narrower - put widthe restrictions on roads - stick traffic "calming" islands out into the middle of roads........

It is shocking the damage they have done and when people sit in their cars in yet another traffic jam they think - "Ah well there's just too many cars around"!!!

Why not tackle China first? What is the point in us making lives difficult for ourselves when - on a global scale - we are a mere pinprick? China puts more crap into the atmophere in 1 day than we do in 1 year!!!

I think this is what concerns most people.

What most people don't realise is that due to the current trend of pedestrianisation of city centres the only times that service vehicles are now allowed in there to supply them is....DURING THE MORNING RUSH...
We now have a situation where between 6am and 9am ALL the service vehicles for most town centre shops without their own dedicated loading areas arrive.

Yep... IMO you need to be on the road an awful lot more than the average person is to be able to see the damage that's been done across the board.
Since about 1995 the road system in towns has gone completely to pot and it's the ridiculous ideas forced upon incompetent local government by a clueless national government that have done it.

Ah but it isn't - all the green groups do is make trouble in Britain - Greenpeace staged a demo in the Land Rover plant and shut down a production line - why not go over to China and make a REAL effort to save the planet???

join these people and help them demand lower tax on your behalf, http://www.taxpayersalliance.com/news/blog.php I wonder what would happen if all those in full time employment said they would strike if there company paid over there taxes to the government, unless there were huge changes made to the entire system
