Have you been sniffing petrol again? You really need to stop the self-abuse.

Yep. Same engine as the Jeep Grand Cherokee of the same era but doesn't use solid axles as the Jeep does.

When a manufacturer quotes a towing capacity it takes into account everything...brakes, clutch, auto trans cooling...and even towbar integrity to the vehicle under maximum loading.
Can't say as I recommend exceeding the rated capacity...car going one way and trailer going another should be a function reserved for caravan destuction derbys and the A30 in Cornwall during July/August

Dunno Tim. Just a comment. ML is likely to give more of a car type ride but I've never been in one so can't say yes or no. Solid axles have a wee compromise in their ride cos if a wheel at one end of the axle travels over a bump then the wheel at the other end also moves, plus the less unsprung weight in the suspension the easier it is to control. However, it varies lots between vehicles which look essentially the same setup. I've got the Jeep and a Disco, both solid axles, both with similar suspension arm setup, both with fixed propshaft to the axles from a transfer box. The Disco is seriously an agricultural vehicle in comparison to the Jeep but the Jeep kinda joggles at lowish speeds over some odd undulations in the road surface.
Not been in the latest Disco but from what I've seen of em on the road they look all independent suspension. No doubt Codders can confirm, or not.
If your thinking the ML 2.7CRD the engine is good. Not overly powerful at max power but the mid range is very good. There's not much you can't overhaul quickly in normal driving. Disco is v slow in comparison. Erm... disco is v slow full stop - but a good work horse. Mine is more or less permanently connected to me boat so it pulls 3.5tons regularly. Not fast but it does it without complaining. It's auto.
