For what it is worth, I have had a Disco 3 for 5 years and it has now done 92k miles. Mostly towing a large, heavy twin axle caravan. Been as far as the Med and over the Alps a couple of times (with the tin tent). Tows our rib (unbraked trailer) very nicely too.
The D3 is really comfortable but heavy on juice. 22mpg in town, gentle motorway can see 30mpg with restraint and towing 19-24mpg depending on terrain.
Reliability has been very good and much cheaper to maintain than other Landies I have owned (petrol Range Rovers in particular).
The 110 is a very good bus too - but if you like a comfortable, quiet ride, the D3 is better.

No ones disputes the D3 in ability... It's the reliability and repair costs
Roll on 2013 and some boating. Running out of rubbish debates for winter.

Having been quite happy with my last 20 grand Ssangyong commercial I thought I'd treat myself and try a D4 ... they wanted 33000 for it and I couldnt even get in it .. they said I needed a tall persons kit for the drivers seat at god knows how much extra that was going to be.. thats as far as I got .. for 13 grand extra ? You really would need your head examined to want one when my Korean motor has a five year warranty as standard for so much less and does the job brilliantly .. so I bought another
*edit* all +VAT

Only if they are above national average. So you have to know approximately how tall they are BEFORE you ask. Any Scot referred to as Big Man is at least 5'8" tall so you're safe to ask in this case.
Little people, on the other hand, are best not quizzed about their height. They can be quite titchy tetchy...
