Getting really bored of this landrover game now !

So having not had any time or money to spend on the boat as I've been trying to sort out a suitable towing vehicle, I've attempted various things & mostly learnt that

a) everything anywhere near a 300 tdi engine is even filthier than an outboard

b) I have some really helpful neighbours who have been brilliant at undoing stuck bits for me

c) i'm going to slap everyone who says 'I told you so'

The bastard thing decided to overheat in Swansea and has now been diagnosed with a blown head gasket. According to the internet its really easy to replace, according to the garage its several hours work and probably not worth doing.

Aaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh I want a foreign car !!!!

That is all. Thanks for listening.

Is there a "proper" one?
What you're experiencing is "proper". No "ifs" nor "buts". Genuine Proper LandRover experience. Be part of it.........let it flow over you.
Actually?......Naahhh, get angry, like any normal creature would. Kick the bugger, carefully aimed the thing may actually collapse with just the one kick.

Be pleased the body lasted longer than the engine..... :whistling early discos were a nightmare.

Have has 300tdi which had a permanent fan belt squeak, leaked like a sieve.

Now have a td5 disco2, which is much better. Given any choice it would be a 90 td5.

What age is it ? If it's any consolation I bought a Merc ML 270 because it had 7 seats & could tow the boat. In a year 2 new injectors, 3 ball joints, one rear spring, 5 tyres, laser tracking that sets off the EPC light occasionally, change of auto gear oil (£100) now slips in 3rd to 4th... lovely car to drive when it works !!
I have a Defender for work, reliable but probably the most uncomfortable car to drive. Mates Disco & his Dads Range Rover always in the garage..
Did somebody mention Japanese ??

i thought the 200 series was pretty good? which im guessing is the one you have, in which case the head gasket to do is easy peasy!

Embrace the whole experience, and just keep hugging and hugging and hugging until there's no money left. That's what will happen.

As it happens I used to have a 200 series disco which was a bit better than the 300 series so I believe, and the head gasket went on that, my mechanic sorted it out no problem. Change your mechanic

I am glad that I got rid old rust bucket though

Also, at what point is one LandRover any better than any other?
Is that measured in seconds? Or degrees of engine revolution before the thing splutters its last gasp?
Before dropping its guts and indeed limbs and skin. And that's just the new ones.
