Regarding the Bongo.
All are imports from Japan. In Japan they don't grit roads in winter so they don't need to underseal their vehicles. If buying an import check that is has been undersealed when imported or budget for getting it done yourself.
Bongos use the same engine as the Ford Ranger/Mazda B200. The engine is centrally mounted under the driver/passenger seats, these have to come out to do any kind of work but are easily removed.
They come in camper roof or tintop (no elevating roof). They come in 2 wheel (rear) and 4x4 versions. You'll get about 25mpg (non towing).
Space is very limited for camping but you can get add ons like awnings etc.
Timing belt change at (55k I think), is crucial. Oil change every 3.5k.
Most come with lots of toys like cd/dvd players, full front rear air con etc.
Apparently are very good tow vehicles.
I'm looking at either one of these, a Hilux Surf or Mitsu Delica for towing/fun next year.
