Need a van - have £1000 - any ideas on which one?

I am down in Somerset and after a van to use for moving 4 dogs around and when not working moving our bikes and diving kit. Really need a Vito size van and have around £1000 to spend.

Any suggestions on what to look out for?

Cheers
Mike

I suspect at £1k, you're going to be stuck with an ex parcel delivery Sprinter or a Mk 3 Transit. Avoid ex parcel vans if you can, or anything that has any cement residue in it. It'll be scrap pretty damn quick.

The other alternative if you can find a good one, is a Bedford/Vauxhall Midi. Sod of a thing to work on, and column change, but they go alright, not bad on fuel (ie, better than a tranny/Sprinter) if you don't boot them and they're Isuzu engines so go on and on. There's a surprising amount of room in them too.

A T4 for a a grand would be the the biggest shagger in shagsville. Forget German, go French on that sort of budget. Renault Master or the Citroen/Peugeot variant.

If you go for a Peugeot Boxer / Citroen Relay type van, check the gearbox out as they're a bit fragile.
I'd look for a transit.
