If they all needed a new engine at 39K it would worry me, the fact that many are still going strong at 125K plus leads me to believe it was a one off, probably a Turbo problem that led to other issues.

Firstly, buy an EGR blanking kit from these guys http://www.bellautoservices.co.uk/ and get them fitted. The EGR's last 2 years max and are £250 a side to replace. When playing-up, your MPG will slide and you may not notice it.

More good news, there's a severe shortage of LR spare parts right now. Too many suppliers have gone bust. A pal hasn't had his then 3 week old LR Sport for 80 days as there are no airbags available for it, in the WORLD.

Also, keep an eye on tyre pressures. If you keep them at the top end of the 'loaded' advised range, it'll keep mpg at the optimum without effecting handling and tyre wear adversely.

Well it is a Land Rover, so true to form it’s broken down.
I’ve not even collected it yet, but I suppose that’s a good thing.

When I test drove the car it had a parking brake fault light on the dash, but the garage obviously agreed to fix it before I collected it on Saturday.

They’ve apparently swapped in a new parking brake unit, but this brand new unit has been supplied with a fault, Land Rover are going to try to get a new one out to them Tuesday, but they are in short supply.

Looks like I’ll be waiting a few more days as I can’t get any time off until Thursday afternoon.

The Shogun has gone however, so we're back to sharing a car.

Yeah sorry to hear that Nasher and thanks for posting as many wouldnt, particularly with the likes of my post in this thread earlier, but its a serious issue I was making in one of my posts about brand loyalty .. There are some makes of cars in this country that just dont deserve the patronage that people give them .. its like flogging a dead horse, and why people do it I just dont know .. everyone is free to make a choice ofcourse

Bigmuz7 - just to put a different perspective on the loyalty to Land Rover - I've driven them since I left school through my work and as my own vehicles as has Darren.

Over the last 23 years we have had pretty much all versions of the Oval monsters from Series II's to Discoverys to Defenders to Lightweights to 101's and Piglets - probably in the region of 18 different Land Rovers over that time including some of the really notorious ones for trouble such as the Freelander and I can truthfully say that we have never had a problem that has seen any of those vehicles off the road for more than one day and for the vast majority nothing other than a regular service has been required. I've broken one prop shaft and Darren's turned over a V8 110 but they were both down to us not the vehicle.

I do understand what you are saying but in our case I would never buy a different make as they have always surpassed any expectation I've had, we have used them as very tough work horses and as "holiday" cars and they have always delivered

If there is a negative factor for me its the nickability factor - we have had 2 work ones stolen over the years and at least 4 winches - and only last week two separate friends had theirs stolen - one used in a robbery and one not yet recovered - all within a 6 mile radius of us in a very sleepy and rural part of West Sussex (not that there is much of that left!!)

Anyway I appreciate its only one very personal experience but thought it might give one reason why some of us are so brand loyal

Yep I take your point .. It isnt just about LR's ofcourse, take Volvo for example, my father bought one after a bad road accident in 1967 , and then it was the safety issue that was the big selling point. Well he's just replaced his last car with what ? ... another Volvo .. I tried explaining that they arent necessarily the safest cars on the road any more, neither the most reliable, in fact if you look at the JD Power what ever it is survey, they are down the list for many things reliability included ( beaten by Skoda ) I'm not saying they are bad cars , because they arent, and neither are Skoda .. and actually Skoda is quite a good example of one of the points I am making, and why brand loyalty can be bad for your health, I'm not advocating buying German either, its actually Lexus that tops the list IIRC.

You actually get the same issue in my industry. People buy JCB diggers agian and again and will not entertain any other manufacturer .. maybe by tonight I'll have an answer as to why that is .. *shoots off to work*

As you well know, there's a lot more than just brand loyalty that keeps co.s tied in with the Bamfords. A workshop full of JCB spares, tools, JCB experienced fitters and a shedload of JCB finance being 4 reasons. Also, they aren't a bad machine.

I ran a couple of Disco TD5s a few years ago and loved them. However my mileage made them expensive beasts to keep on the road as I did 40k a year and when they did go wrong it was always an eye watering experience !

My Pajero's milage is coming up for 240k I'm going to get it some new injectors as a treat for behaving itself. It is my favouritest ever 4 * 4 because its been so reliable and strong and barely has any electronic obselesence built in.
