I did see one of those bugs last year on the IOW at Bembridge and it did make me think how cool it would be to own one. Probably the island is a good place to drive one. No motorways and not too far to go.

I reckon the TR7 was ahead of it's time - the TR8 could have been a real winner but they made less than 3,000 before it was killed off.
Another sweet car was the Fiat X1/9 - I drove one once and it was like driving a minature Ferrari - it was serious fun and it felt really quick - until I looked at the speedo and saw I was only doing 60mph - it felt like 110.......

As with most 1970/80s cars it was pretty unreliable. Very nice looking car though. I used to know a bloke with one who would spend all week cleaning it and then on a Saturday night put on his glad rags and aim for the local night life. Trouble is half the time he would break down. Always felt sorry for him. Stood at the side of the road on a warm Saturday evening in his pink shirt with Chinos and navy blue pullover thrown over his shoulders.

Oh yes, saw one of these on the road on the IOW a couple of days ago. Thought all of them had returned to the earth now!

Funnily enough I hadn't seen an X1/9 for years - then saw one yesterday.
Main killer with them was rust - they fell apart very quickly!!!

My wife used to own an 850 Mini, I loved it! Was a little cramped for long distances but when I borrowed it for work they nick named me Mr Bean as it was in the same colours as his one.

As a kid in London with a single digit age, I latched onto the E-Type or the car in the picture, both seen in mayfair etc (If any one can name it,please give yourself a slap in the chops). Ultimately I moved on to Cod's aston, which I think is still the best super ever made.

Had an ex CID manual V8 SD1 as one of my 1st cars and loved it. I had an X1/9 too but hated it-I didn't test drive it first and when I got in I found my knees hit the steering wheel.
Had mk 1 and Mk2 Escorts too but I think my favourites were a Manta Coupe, tuned 2 litre mk 2 Capri and my mates matt black mk1 escort with bucket seats. rollcage and a 2 litre pinto lump.

sorry not enough zero's and not enought zero's in the bank for an RS 200 in the 80's, yes RS 2000.
Did you know Reliant built the RS 200 body shells, there's a little bit of useless info.

Had a Lancia Beta HPE VolumeX similar to this:
- boy did that supercharger make a lovely noise and she used to motor along pretty well
Mind you it rusted nearly as fast as it accelerated .....

No I didn't realise that - mind you the Reliant Scimitar was a great car.
Loved the Lancias - who cares if they rust and aren't reliable - if you want a car to do the shopping in by a Nissan Micra. If you have a soul get a REAL car!!!

I had a non supercharged 2 litre HPE for about 3 weeks. It fell in half with rot along the front bulkhead/inner wing join until one day I came out and the floor was touching the ground

Exactly. I loved that car, but bits had a habit of falling off as you accelerated.... used to leave a trail of debris up the motorway Mind you every bit that fell off made it a little lighter so it went quicker
