What car is this?
Saw two of these cars together with body covers on today travelling north M3 from Southampton, no idea what they are but obviously been out on test.

I'm not going to buy a new car, but put silly body panels over my old Rover so it looks like cutting edge technology

It's the new XJ...styling reveal in a couple of months time; on general sale early next year. The 3 litre diesel engine is the one as just launched in the facelifted Discovery...up from the current 2.7litre - more power and enough torque to rival the QE2

Is it though? Some of these latest diesels aren't too good on fuel in the real world!!!

The V10 Toerag is supposed to be juicy. But then, we're a brainwashed into buying diesel 4x4's. Unleaded is cheaper and there's little difference in mpg with many.

Yeah but compared to petrols they are gaining massive power outputs .. ok so the engines are larger and heavier, but as the use of alloys in engines grows.. they are catching up very quickly
Didnt JCB sposor some diesel record recently ?

That's not right. My Father had that engine in a Hi-Top camper and could squeeze 42mpg out of it.

My Rover 420 gets 48mpg no matter how it's driven. I managed to get a Renault Laguna 175bhp down to 22mpg.
Yes diesels are getting close to petrol power outputs - but you don't get something for nothing and if you use 300hp you are going to pay for it no matter what fuel it is!!!

Hehehe well the way I look at it is
RS2 = 17mpg
A4 1.9tdi quattro = 50+easy
A4 2.5tdi = 33
so you have to compromise at some point no points for guessing the 0-60 for each is directly the reverse of the mpg

I hired a Vectra 150bhp and it had a very nice spread of power. The Renault was 175bhp and was awful - it would torque steer at 95mph on the motorway but my Discovery 300tdi was quicker at roundabouts. The Renault would have been a nightmare to tow with.
The Vectra - although 25bhp less was so much more usable. The Renault was fun overtaking on fast B roads though!!!

i have found a tdi hooked up to an auto box and quattro there is no issue. it dose not matter what or where you are, just. "press and go" wet roundabouts are not even noticed.
FWD as a rule are for shoping cars.

Here's some of our recent family vehicles: RR (BMW) petrol V8...12mpg RR (BMW) diesel...25mpg. Freelander 2.2 diesel...35mpg. C-Max 1.6 diesel...50mpg. Fiesta 1.4 diesel 55mpg.
Those diesels sound ok to me...
